Sadhan Das Bairagi was a distinguished Baul mystic and a humanitarian spiritual thinker. He was born in 1951 in Muktipur village, Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, and passed away on July 23, 2023.
His spiritual journey began with the establishment of an ashram in Hatgobindpur. Later, he founded his own ashram in Amrul village, which became a center where people from far and wide gathered to listen to his philosophy, songs, and life teachings.
Vairagya, that is, a disengagement from worldly desires, is core of his life philosophy. He was an ascetic seeker whose songs reflected themes of humanity, love, the philosophy of the body (Dehotattva), and divine spirituality. Sadhan Das Bairagi’s compositions reveal profound philosophical reflections on the relationship between the individual and the Creator, the truth of the soul, and the inherent divinity within human beings.
He was an important guide within the Baul tradition, and his life and spiritual practice continue to inspire many followers.
